#12: Google Webmaster Tools - What Google Knows About Your Website - Part 1

Published on 24 August 2010 under

The whole essence of these tutorials is to guide you step-by-step through every process in setting up a successful long-term strategy for generating leads online.

The main focus is on free traffic from the search engines, particularly Google as ranking well on there guarantees you huge amounts of targeted traffic.

Although Google doesn’t tell us exactly how they rank websites, we have a fair idea of how to achieve the results that we want, using techniques that don’t violate Google’s terms of service.

Many webmasters tell me that Google just doesn’t appear to like their websites! Google won’t rank them or feature them anywhere in their results. But, as long as you’re not doing anything wrong then it’s just most likely that Google doesn’t know your website well enough or it doesn’t see it as being popular enough.

You can deal with one of these points quite easily. To make your website appear more popular you need to spend time getting links pointing to it. In terms of Google knowing everything you have on your website, well, if you don’t have a great structure to your site, or if it's new, then it will struggle to properly index your pages.

Google DOES want to know about everything you have on your site. Whether they decide it’s relevant enough to include in their search results is another matter but as I often say, effective online marketing is about maximising every opportunity.
