#10: Website Review #1: Large Real Estate Company With Big Online Problems

Published on 09 August 2010 under Website Reviews

As I cover more and more in-depth tutorials with you, I will stop every now and again to review a website to demonstrate some of the topics that I’ve covered in previous tutorials.

This is a great way to learn from other people’s mistakes and also from what they do well.

For today’s website review, I picked the website of a company in the UK with a chain of offices who seem to be getting it so horribly wrong when it comes to their online marketing.

They are making some of the most basic mistakes any company can make and it’s not for a lack of resources, as you’ll see in a minute.

It never ceases to amaze me how many estate agents think that just having a website and throwing some content at it will generate all the business that they need, especially ones such as in this example who obviously have the resources to develop a proper, effective and profitable online presence.

This sort of example also shows how the smaller players can truly succeed online by just knowing how to do it right. We all know the importance of the Internet for generating real estate enquiries so getting it right online is of paramount importance.

In today’s example I show you how this chain of estate agents is doing the following:

  • Trashing their website navigation and search engine indexing
  • Frustrating users
  • Making basic on-page optimisation mistakes
  • Terrible property search facility
  • Pointless home page
  • Missed opportunity with their own professional videos
  • Their “why did they bother” about us video
  • Simple mistakes with their news section

And much more.

This is a great case study but many of the points that I highlight here are all too common. If you are making any of these mistakes then they could be costing you money!
